Why digitise your transformer?

A transformer is always the critical cornerstone, whether it is the power supply for industrial activities, buildings or temporary infrastructure. The ever-increasing electrification of just about everything around us means that close monitoring and guarantees of optimum function of these critical transformers are no superfluous luxury.

Rental companies with transformers are aware of the risks involved. The temperature within a transformer gradually creeps upwards, until the moment of failure. Ventilation and cooling systems should prevent this, but they are not flawless either. These rental companies indicated that they had no remote control over the temperature development, the ventilation and the cooling of their transformers. They could not intervene in time and could not notify their customers if there were problems.

If someone entered the transformer uninvited, these customers could not intervene. They, and their customers, had no visibility of door openings or movement in the transformer. This meant that they could not act in the event of unwanted access.

Water ingress, increased humidity, dust and vermin are also a real threat. These issues could not be monitored either. Safety could not be maximised from a distance.

Customers we have helped indicated that it was not possible for them to monitor the control system of transformers digitally. They had no insight into the daily energy flows, load intensity and DMCR switching information of their devices.
